eBay fees in the UK: what you'll actually pay (2026)
eBay’s fees have changed meaningfully in the UK, and whether you pay them now depends on what kind of seller you are. Here’s what matters.
Private vs business sellers
This is the key distinction:
- Private sellers (people selling their own used items): eBay has removed selling fees for private sellers in most categories in the UK. There are exceptions (like motors), so check your category.
- Business sellers (you’re trading — buying to resell, or selling at volume): you pay eBay’s business selling fees, which vary by category and subscription.
If you’re reselling as a business, assume you’re in the fee-paying camp and price accordingly.
Fees and rules change regularly. Always confirm the current fees on eBay’s own fee pages for your category and seller type.
What eats into an eBay sale
Even fee-free, a sale isn’t all profit. Account for:
- Your cost for the item
- Postage you cover
- Any category or optional listing fees
- Tax, if you’re trading over the £1,000 trading allowance
Am I a “business seller”?
If you’re buying things specifically to sell on for profit, you’re trading — regardless of volume. That has both eBay-fee and tax implications. Clearing out your loft is different from running stock.
Track profit, not just sales
Between category fees, postage and cost of goods, your real margin on eBay can be very different from the sale price.
The Reselling app in Sedonis captures cost and fees per item and shows your genuine profit — across eBay, Vinted and Depop — so you know which items are actually worth listing again. Free to start.
