Working:
Margin vs markup, quickly
Margin is profit as a percentage of your sale price. Markup is profit as a percentage of your cost. Same profit, two very different numbers, which is why they trip everyone up. Sell a £10 item for £15 and you have a 33% margin but a 50% markup.
The number that keeps you in business is net margin: your profit after every cost, including fees, postage and your time. This calculator counts fees, so what you see is close to your real take-home. The full method is in how to calculate profit margin.
