What is a final value fee?

The percentage eBay takes from the total sale when an item sells.

A final value fee is the selling fee eBay charges once an item sells. It is worked out on the total sale, including the postage the buyer pays, not just the item price.

For a UK business seller in clothes, shoes and accessories it is 11.9%, plus a 0.35% regulatory operating fee and 30p per order (40p over £10). On a £40 sale that is £4.76 + £0.14 + £0.40 = £5.30, so you keep £34.70 before postage and what you paid. UK private sellers pay no final value fee. Fees change, so check eBay before you price.
